I have always thought that Louise Fletcher's performance was one of the greatest, most understated in cinema history. I have worked with women like the character she played. A brilliant performance in a brilliant film. I just can't believe it was 45 years ago! I'm too young to be that old. I thought Nicholson's character was a complete low-life jerk who deserved what happened to him at the end. He was trying to avoid jail for statutory rape by pretending to be mentally ill,and he totally disrupted the hospital and was the one responsible for the death of the young inmate. When I watch a movie, I want the leading characters, no matter how evil, to at least have some redeeming qualities, the lead in this movie had none. It was only marginally better than Easy Rider, which didn't have one decent character in the entire film and is right at the top of my worst of all time list.

Brilliant movie. so real you forget you're watching a movie. milos forman directing this master piece. A difficult role for Christopher Lloyd to play. My heart just melted when she started to sign for her parents, who are deaf and she's trying to hold back her tears. What an honor it must have been for them to be acknowledged by their daughter on her winning night.

One of the greatest movies ever. Hollywood just pukes out garbage anymore with special effects. I saw this movie when it came out,when Macmurphy took Ratchet by her throat people were cheering. She'll always remind me of my maths teacher in 10th grade. 40 years later I still have nightmares. There's very few movies based on novels out there that are as well as adapted as One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Even though Ken Kesey's novel is an incredible tour-de-force, the movie version is just as excellent, albeit in a different way. Though the book takes a different approach (it's written from Chief Broden's perspective) and has a few more interesting twists and turns, the movie version is still amazing, and it works brilliantly. The acting by every single actor in this film is near-on perfect - the performaces are all extremely well realized. The direction adds to the incredible atmosphere, and the story works very well too. There's moments of pure emotion in the movie - whether they be humor or sadness - and the whole thing is gripping, entertaining, shocking, and, well, just plain wonderful.

It's worth getting hold of the recently-released 2 DVD set. As well as a great widescreen transfer, the documentary about the making of the film is a wonderful insight into the process, and what the actors had to go through to bring the movie to life. There's also a selection of very interesting deleted scenes that add another dimension to the movie, and will be very apparent to readers of the novel. Definitely on my top ten list, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of the finest examples of filmmaking out there.

These scenes were not necessary (as they were not at the same level of quality as the ones in the movie or were reworked to be made better) but seeing these characters again reinforces how great the characters and the movie was overall.

The narrators tone is as disturbing as Ratched herself. 😖

That's be so cool. I have to confess, it is so refreshing to see a good novel adapted into a film so well! Jack Nicholson is soooo good as McMurphy. oh Lord above, I love this! This is one of my favourite novels and this has given me faith that the film isn't always terrible! So much love... Although the casting of Ratched isn't great, but I guess you can't have everything. Everything else is spot on (except McMurphy is supposed to be ginger, but I can't think of anyone better than Nicholson to play him so I'm not too bothered. So much freakin' love for this.

1/16/2015 Almost 40 Years since One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest was Filmed in 1975, Just now got it from my Movie Collection and am now going to watch it for atleast the 100th time right now. I love this movie! It is the Best Movie ever made and for dam good reasons. God Bless Jack Nicholson,Danny Devito,Christopher Lloyd, Louise Fletcher,William Redfield,Scatman Crothers, Sydney Lassick,Will Sampson and Brad Dourif. Every Actor and Director Deserved every Award Given to them and I think Brad Dourif got robbed for not winning best Supporting Actor against George Burns. God Bless this Film. Brad probably did not win the Award because He fought and fucked to much.
